Process

To give you an idea of what to expect when working with me, I’ve provided a breakdown of my editorial process.

(Please refer to my info sheet for a breakdown of my transcript proofreading process, as it differs from other editorial processes.)

Reach out.

If you have questions or are interested in any of my editorial services, get in touch with me via email (erin@manifestediting.com) or the contact form.

I’ll promptly follow up with you to address your inquiries and gain a better understanding of your project needs.

Secure your service.

Ready to proceed? Once we’ve agreed on timelines, I’ll send a project agreement outlining our collaboration.

Simultaneously, I’ll invoice 50% of the total project fee to secure my availability. (For projects $75 and under, I will invoice for the full fee.)

Receive your first draft and make revisions.

Expect your edited document by the agreed-upon delivery date. You’ll begin reviewing and responding to my changes and comments.

If you’re unfamiliar with Track Changes and Comments, I’m here to guide you through the process.

Depending on the service you selected, you might also receive a style sheet outlining my style decisions.

Get your sample edit and quote.

Share a section of your document, ensuring it doesn’t exceed 1,000 words or 20% of the overall project size (whichever is smaller).

I’ll provide a free sample edit to determine compatibility and the recommended level of editing.* Additionally, I’ll provide you with a project quote.

*Please note that sample edits do not apply to transcript proofreading and picture book packages.

Stay tuned for updates on your project.

I’ll get to work on your project.

For most editorial services, I work with Microsoft Word, using the Track Changes and Comments features.

For proofreading jobs, I also accept files in PDF and will return your work with annotations indicating suggested changes.

Get your final draft.

Generally, you can expect to receive two rounds of editing (the details will be stated in our project agreement).

This means that once you’ve reviewed my edits, I’ll go over your document a second time, making adjustments based on your feedback and performing a final file cleanup.

When finished, I’ll invoice you for the remainder of the fee. Upon receiving payment, I’ll promptly deliver your final document.
